So maybe this is the year that Tommy becomes more identified as fashion and not just clothing.  Long gone are the campaigns of ghetto fabulous and more forward - the American iconic university chic.  You can see how the tailoring has changed to become more streamline, the textiles improve and the quality enters into something beyond Macy's.  It seems Tommy has spent the last few years playing clean-up of the image and branding, recollecting licensing from all over the place and it shows.  Here's a collection to desire.
Tommy's 2010 collection is American Classic retro-chic, it seems that many are ready to now embrace the red, white and blue logo. Hepburn, Miami beach, Nantucket Island, Ivy League Varsity Sweaters, Gossip Girls and rejuvenated-out-of-a-recession-looking-guys, with open collars and exposed tans - who are casual and relaxed and listen to American classics.  I liked the neutral color palette with a splash of color and the suburban sensibility.

Jhina Alvarado
Jhina Alvarado is a Mexican / Korean painter who expresses herself in such mediums as oil. encaustic, and mixed medium painting. She is a self taught artist who holds a Master’s degree in Math Education and  a Bachelor’s degree in Liberal Studies from San Francisco State University. Jhina, a native Californian, has lived in San Francisco since 1994. She currently teaches algebra and geometry to middle school students.

Jhina is currently the highlighted artist at the GALLERY U - INFAMOUS show, her pieces have received a tremendous amount of attention and the show hasn't even opened yet.  Rumor has it some are already sold or on reserve.

Jhina's multi layered technique is so fresh and inviting. Her works appear as delicate ceramic tiles and the depth of the images are mysterious, enthralling and potent. You can almost attach your own memories to her work, a day, a time, an event. Absolutley brilliant. Don't Miss the opening of INFAMOUS on February 25th from 6-9 at GALLERY U "Be There or be accused"

Review: Walt Cessna Photography at Live Fast

The entire lower east side converged on the tiny space to praise warrior photographer Walt Cessna Friday night.  Moving through the crowd of artists, designers, editors and all the other admirers that make New York fashionable, it almost seemed to taunt the end of New York Fashion week, as this is the scene that truly starts the trends, not Bryant Park.  Walt is no stranger to either. He has a gift of style and is able to capture the disaffected waifishness of one, the chaos in the next, the tranquility or pandemonium in the following, and so on.  They are all unassuming and subtly recessive in their acceptance of light and movement and contrasts, brilliantly orchestrated and delicious like cupcake frosting. I love how Walt is able to take even the most masculine man and expose his sly feminization.  Walt's self portraits are equally telling, you experience his mood, his joy his torment, his pride.  His self portraits are much like his voice - soft, reassuring and confident.  Walt's show, flawless.

Todrick Hall -He's gay, dark, handsome, with gorgeous eyes - and can sing! He is in American Idol's top 24
Congratulations to Todrick for making it into the top 24.  Is America ready for a gay african American Idol? Well Adam Lambert set the stage so maybe Todrick can fill it.  He is not an unknown talent who just happens to have a voice - he is (obviously ) made his way around fame and celebrity life.  He's a fan of Adam's, contemporary /modern dance and photography as well as Ellen, Lady Gaga, Avenue Q and Kathy Griffin.  Todrick has an infectious smile and beeming personality and now that he has made the top 24 the dirt, gossip and trash will come out, but put that all aside and just enjoy him, that's what he is there for. Go-Todrick!
