Performance and the Male Nude No. 6
The performance, titled Performance and the Male Nude No. 6 will consist of Yatrofsky and a male subject re enacting a scene from the 1966 British-Italian film directed by Michelangelo Antonioni. Yatrofsky subverts the scene by becoming the photographer of a nude male model.
Yatrofsky writes, "Yes: I am interested in pushing boundaries, in challenging conventions. My performances contribute to a dialogue about nudity and sexuality, about the body politic, about human behavior and about social mores. I present my work deliberately as live performance in order to physically confront and engage an audience with the penis itself, either erect or not, and the isolated sexuality of men."
"I am passionate about male sexuality. I want it represented. Our society is eager to construct and depict the sexuality of women, to portray females as sexual objects, but actively avoids the sexuality of men, except as voyeurs."
After the performance, Polaroid pictures taken by Yatrofsky will be left behind as a record of the event and will be on view in the gallery for the remainder of the exhibition.
Yatrofsky received an MFA in Photography from Parsons The New School for Design in 2009 and a BA from the University of Nevada Las Vegas in 2005.
