GMHC in partnership with the Leslie - Lohman Museum of Gay and Lesbian Art present Art & AIDS: Amor y Pasión.
An Exhibition of the Humanity and Spirit of Artists Living and Affected by HIV & AIDS.
Exhibition curated by Osvaldo Perdomo and David Livingston
Art & AIDS: Amor y Pasión honors the memory of Keith Haring for his artistic talent, his legacy to the HIV/AIDS Community and marks the 25th anniversary of Haring’s death from AIDS complications. Six significant prints from the Keith Haring series “Bad Boys”, made in 1986 will be on display. These works have seldom been exhibited publicly and they capture Haring’s examination of his own sexuality from a time when many contemporaries became sick and were dying. A Haring’s portrait taken by Robert Mapplethorpe will also be on display. The Keith Haring Foundation have donated a Keith Haring screen print, valued between $900 - $1,500 for Silent Auction to benefit GMHC. The piece is from 2010 numbered and signed in the front by Shepard Fairey, who became widely known during the 2008 US Presidential Elections for his Obama "Hope" poster.
All events and museum admission are free and open to the public.
Opening Reception
Thursday, January 22, 2015. 6pm - 8pm
Exhibition runs through Sunday, February 1, 2015
